Timeshare Watch

Timeshare is no stranger to scams. Despite the numerous numbers of cases filed against timeshare companies and agents and in spite of the popularity of timeshare frauds, many still fall to these agents and companies. The primary reason often pointed out is the fact that most timeshare owners want to get rid of their unit immediately that they bite right away to whatever offering available. Of course, the fault lies in both sides. Yes, the blame is on these scammers but as a consumer, timeshare owners should also be able to protect themselves .

There are a lot companies and agents who offer timeshare exit solution but timeshare owners should be able to determine the real from the not. Many owners are carrying the burden of skyrocketing maintenance fees so they would do anything to get out of their timeshare. At these days, this task is seemingly insurmountable. If you want to sell your timeshare, you have yourself a lot of competition over a very small market. So you need an extra hand for your timeshare exit solution. But another problem arises, you are now aware of the prevalence of timeshare resale scam, that you became rather doubtful of resorting to asking help. The good news is there are still people who genuinely want to help you get rid of your timeshare. But how can you determine the real from the not? Here are simple guidelines to follow:

1. Do not say yes immediately. Before choosing the one to offer you timeshare exit solution, choose among at least three companies to help you out.

2. Check on the credibility of a person or a company you will deal with. As a start, be sure you know where the specific location of their office is. Make sure that they are licensed to run their business. See the Better Business Bureau (BBB), check if the company is accredited and have no past cases of frauds. It is always best if you seek help from a BBB Accredited Business.

3. Never make any deal on a phone or by simply verbal communication. Have all the terms and conditions written on a contract. Make sure you read the contract thoroughly before signing it.

4. Beware of sweet offerings. Many scammers will lure you to make business with them because they offer the fastest and most convenient timeshare exit solution. But when you encounter such, better back away for this is a typical strategy of a timeshare resale company that engaged in fraud.

These are only a few friendly reminders for timeshare owners. You have the power to have a timeshare exit solution that is effective, all you have to is do your research.

The Timeshare Industry in a Global Scope

The Timeshare industry holds a strong market potential worldwide. This obvious manifestation supports the fact that the US Timeshare industry is still on a growth curve in spite of the fact that the US economy is experiencing a decline in the housing market or real estate and fuel prices increase. This served as an indication that the timeshare industry did not fall to the economic woes and is still doing well amidst the economic downfalls nowadays. Since change is inevitable, the trend for vacation do vary from time to time especially today that possible consumers are opting for alternative vacations that would only demand them less spending for travelling. This just means that they aim and would want to pursue vacations that would only require lesser or shorter time and expenses to travel and closer-to-home stays.

The effect of the financial crisis to the vacation ownership industry varies among the different continents around the globe. Europe is still facing a downside in their timeshare industry but they do desperately try amending some rules and regulations to intensify and help increase this industry in their area. It is therefore assumed by them that the resume of the growth of this industry would be the same as to what happened in the 1970s and 1980s.

There’s also a great potential that might emerge today on the vacation ownership markets in Asian countries. Examples of these countries would be India, Singapore, China, Malaysia and Indonesia. This has been said so because holiday destinations there are of higher demand due to the growing affluence of Asians and because of their region’s established low-cost airlines.

This is a report that shows the study on the dynamics of the timeshare industry internationally. It further reveals their analyzation on the expected regions that would experience a higher growth in the industry and the European region also that is struggling with some regulations that they need to establish and the likes to help further the vacation ownership there. It also gave a brief knowledge about the US timeshare industry’s high growth amidst an economic slowdown.

There are four major vacation ownership industries that are of competitive intensity- Wyndham Vacation Ownership (Wyndham Worldwide), Marriott Vacation Club Ownership (Marriott International), Hilton Grand Vacations Company (Hilton Hotels) and Starwood Vacation Ownership (Starwood Hotels & Resorts). Also a good add in this article would be those timeshare transfer companies that would help timeshare owners be freed if in case they want to get rid of their properties, Timeshare Relief, Inc. is one of the leading ones in these kinds of companies.

Tom and Barbara Remy, from Massachusetts were already desperate to get rid of their timeshare property. At first, they were enjoying their vacation at the property, but it was beyond their expectation that that annual fees of their timeshare started to become a burden for them.

Worldwide Marketing Solutions, a timeshare resale company contacted them and offered to sell their timeshare. The agent made a convincing sales pitch, saying that they could sell their timeshare in England because there is a great demand for it there. This is an offer which they cannot resist at all.

As part of the company’s services, Tom and Barbara were asked for a fee of $1,200. Again, the agent explained where their payment would go. After that, the couple gave the company the exact amount they asked for. Two weeks after their deal, they phoned the company, but no one answered them.

However, months after the transaction, a new company contacted the couple again to bring “good news” to them The agent said that they are taking over Worldwide Marketing Solutions and have found a buyer in England for their timeshare property. Again, the agent asked for a closing payment that costs $3,894. Without hesitation, the couple paid them.

The couple phoned the company weeks after the transaction. Again, there was no answer. This time, it was for real. The company had vanished and their money was taken away from the couple.

US Campaigns on Getting Rid of Timeshares

America has been serious about the ongoing turmoil among timeshare owners. The economic crisis had urged these owners to give up their expenses on timeshares. It has been a financial burden for these owners who continue to pay for something they don’t anymore use at all.

The first instinct of a timeshare owner when he feels financially incapable already is to reduce expenses. For them, selling their property is the key. And so they find ways and means and develop strategies in which they can dispatch it as soon as possible. But due to the recession, there is an influx of timeshares in the market making it hard for these timeshare owners to be seen and found.

And scammers have spread everywhere trying to ditch every single timeshare owner in town. They did it in patterns like calling up, making promises, asking for your credit card numbers, and disappear like a thief in the night. Since the owners are desperate to sell their timeshares, they are easily the victims of these frauds.

Some tried donating it in order to be auctioned for a charity cause. Some tried renting it out so there is still money to pay for the maintenance fees.

In order to address the burden of timeshare owners in paying for its maintenance fees, and to avoid being scammed, Transfer America, will be holding a seminar for timeshare owners who want to get rid of their timeshares. “Get Rid of My Timeshare” will be conducted in Arkansas, Arizona, Georgia, Alabama, Oklahoman, Tennessee and North Carolina on June 11 to June 14, 2010.

The said seminar shall tackle on the effect of the economic downturn that resulted to a massive timeshare resale market. It will also present the successful tactics and strategies needed to “create the perfect timeshare trap”. It will open your minds to the possible financial impact of your used or unused timeshares. Also, it shall present some documented research on timeshares from “governmental agencies, main-stream media, and other well-known print publications”. Moreover, the seminar shall provide the trusted methods on how to turn your backs from timeshares successfully.

Carolyn and Larry MCullen, owners of an RV timeshare have tried various ways to sell their timeshare and the price went down as low as $295 to sell it.

This seminar requires a pre-registration during which the specific times and locations will be provided. There will be sales offer during the event but the audience will not be forced to purchase.
